Typography

The title letters come from Publi Fluor, the shop in Schaarbeek where Raymond hand-cut fluorescent adhesive letters. When his health failed around 1975, his daughter Chrystel Crickx took over the business. She kept cutting with her father's cardboard templates, but reworked the shapes as she went: watching how customers with no typographic training placed the letters on their shop windows, she took the optical corrections back out until the letters also sat well in untrained hands. For half a century they stood in Brussels shopping streets that way.

Speculoos and Open Source Publishing digitised the letters in 2011. In 2024 the Crickx research group republished the family, now under the name of the shop rather than her name, and under the Collective Conditions for re-use. The Rush cut owes its name to a hurried vectorisation: the rough edges stayed, which is exactly the point here.

Glyphs

The figures roaming this site are found graffiti and street drawings, photographed in public space and reworked into stencils. The wall as medium, the city as co-author.
