About
About me
I am an interaction designer and researcher. My work sits where play, participation and public space meet. Trained as a graphic and media designer, in the early 2000s I was behind the projector as a VJ, with live visuals in clubs, at festivals and fashion shows, and on walls and facades. That is where I became fascinated by what happens when you take interactive technology off the screen and into the street: the interaction between people and computers, but above all the dynamic between people themselves, and how design can set that in motion. Ever since, I have been making installations, games and apps that people don't merely use, but make their own. Why that appropriation matters became the subject of my PhD.
For twenty years I combined that design practice with research and teaching at LUCA School of Arts (KU Leuven), where I mentored over forty master's students and led design studios on playful interactive installations.
Today consultancy is the bulk of my work: digital strategy, service design and participation strategy for museums, cities, research groups and companies, embedded in your team or as an external sounding board. At ACA Group I work as a service designer and digital strategist. What I bring to those assignments comes out of the design work: I know the full cycle from concept to technical execution, I make things that actually work, and I like to think deeply about the substance. Design that is grounded in something, not built for quick visual effect.
I choose my projects with care. I prefer commissions that matter to communities: participation that is more than a token consultation, play that is more than a reward system, technology that gives people something rather than taking something away. And I will say so honestly when I believe a different approach fits better than the one you had in mind.
